Organ Donation: A Shared Vision; An Important Mission

Sharing is caring!

The Foundation

KidneyChef would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Chris Klug Foundation for their remarkable work in advocacy and education.

In the United States alone, 22 people die each day waiting for an organ. The waiting list is growing much faster than rates of donation. Even though over 95% of US adults support organ donation, only 48% are signed up as donors. (US Department of Health and Human Services, 2017)

The Chris Klug Foundation’s (CKF) mission is to advocate for organ and tissue donation and to inspire those touched by transplantation.

“We strive to help people make an educated decision to become a registered organ donor. We pride ourselves in creating a space and providing necessary tools to spark the conversation about organ donation between friends and family members.”

Who is Chris Klug?

After receiving a liver transplant in 2000, Chris Klug went on to compete in the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, where he won a Bronze Medal in snowboarding. Chris is the first and only transplant recipient to compete and win an Olympic Medal, summer or winter.

In 2004, Chris released his book titled, “To the Edge and Back, My story from Organ Transplant Survivor to Olympic Snowboarder.” His life’s mission is to eliminate the wait for organ transplant recipients and inspire those touched by transplantation through the Chris Klug Foundation, which was founded in 2003 and hosts more than fifty events nationwide annually.

You can learn more about the Chris Klug Foundation at Chris lives with his family in Snowmass Village, CO where he is a real estate professional, volunteer with CKF and passionate athlete competing annually in the Grand Traverse, Power of Four, Leadville Trail 100 and other challenges that show the world what is possible after a transplant.
